The Ultimate Cheat Sheet Part 2: Turning Themes into Trades
How to Build, Refine & Trade Your High-Conviction Watchlist
What if you could stop chasing the crowd and start spotting the next market leaders while others are distracted by headlines?
This isn’t about random picks—it’s a roadmap rooted in the persistent forces reshaping sectors, asset classes, and global flows. Today’s top traders don’t rely on luck or speed; they use a framework built on powerful, persistent market themes.
The key is knowing where money is rotating long before the news catches on—riding big waves, not yesterday’s winners.
This guide shows you exactly how.
Inside, you’ll discover:
The precise thematic frameworks that power serious outperformance in growth and momentum trading
High-conviction ETF clusters and sector watchlists that cut through noise and reveal historic leadership
A step-by-step process for filtering, scanning, and executing themes, so you’re always ahead, never left reacting
How to combine technical triggers and relative strength for sniper entries and asymmetric reward
If you’re ready to move from guessing to a repeatable, professional trading routine—built on themes with the firepower to move markets—this is your playbook.
Stop reacting. Start anticipating. Turn themes into actionable trades and have the conviction to hold your winners higher, for longer. There’s a reason top-performing traders use frameworks like these. Let’s get you on the inside track.
The Hybrid Framework Behind the List
1. The Fundamentals + Structure Filter
Focus: Growth names with real businesses (not hype) and technical setups under accumulation.
Key Criteria:
EPS growth > 20%, with acceleration over time
Strong revenue comps (YoY or QoQ) or forward guidance
Price above rising 10 SMA + 21 EMA
Clean bases with minimal overhead supply
Breakouts after earnings reactions or inside flags
Use Case: Core swing setups, run-into-earnings trades, position adds in leaders
2. The Explosive Setup Filter
Let’s keep it real—only price pays.
At Bigger Picture Trading, fundamentals are respected… but when the tape is hot, flow comes first.
As Quallamagie says:
“The shittiest stocks make the biggest moves.”
Some of the best plays come from names with:
No earnings yet
Terrible fundamentals
Broken narratives
Tightness, strong momentum, and crowd participation
Core Criteria:
$100M+ average dollar volume (ensures liquidity)
5% ADR (Average Daily Range)
Proven history of 50–100%+ runs in past cycles
High short interest, tight consolidations
%ADR reveals volatility normalized to price—key for swing traders. Pairing it with tight setups offers asymmetric reward and precise timing.
3. Bigger Picture Trading: The Squeeze + RS Model
This is the engine behind precise timing—a hybrid of multi-timeframe squeeze alignment and elite relative strength analysis.
Key Enhancements:
Weekly/Daily Squeeze Alignment to identify macro-level setups
Relative Strength vs SPY/QQQ for early leaders
Cheat entries off the 10 SMA or 21 EMA for tight risk precision
Clean breakout levels (easy “dollar zones” for momentum)
This model enables precision timing for high-conviction breakouts—ideal for swing trades, earnings plays, and multi-day setups.

Weekly Workflow: How I Use the List
Scan ETFs for daily/weekly squeezes
Drill into top holdings for multi-timeframe triggers
Filter only for sectors with RS vs SPY/QQQ
Spot early theme overlap (e.g., SMR = Nuclear + Defense, MSTR = Crypto + Tech, ENVX = Battery + AI)
Case Study: $HOOD — Trade of the Week (July 16-18, 2025)
Theme Intersection: Fintech × Crypto Infrastructure × Retail Participation
Last Wednesday (July 16), Robinhood (HOOD) broke out cleanly from a 2-week base into new all-time highs, while many traders were distracted by BTC volatility during “Crypto Week”.
But if you were watching theme cross-theme tracking, the signal was loud:
Crypto legislation headlines passed
BTC held up structurally
Meanwhile, HOOD had been coiling at the daily 10 SMA — showing both Relative Strength and was acting very tight under its daily resistance at 100.88.
Since this was a trade idea reviewed during Wednesday’s premarket prep session, this was top of our focus list going into the open.
At the open, HOOD started breaking out of its 2-week base at market open and triggered a buy signal (blue) on the 1H (Hourly) squeeze forming above its 10 SMA and 21 EMA.
At 9.53 AM EST, we bought the $105 calls for July 25 expiration as well as $105 calls for August 1 expiration, as we anticipated an upside continuation into new all-time highs since it had Relative Strength at the open, breaking cleanly above a key resistance level and triggering a squeeze buy signal.
Since a 1H squeeze after firing leads to 6-10 hours of momentum (when a squeeze fires, we tend to see 6-10 bars of momentum — depending on timeframe), this was intended as a swing trade. Hence, the reason we bought options expirations 1-2 weeks out to minimize theta decay.
HOOD continued to show Relative Strength vs BTC, which gave us more conviction to hold.
On Thursday, HOOD broke out once again into new all-time highs and hit its daily 127.2 fib ($108.27) which was our first profit target. We trimmed as our $105 calls for both expiration dates went deep ITM within days. We then held a few contracts since HOOD still had some momentum.
On Friday, HOOD had a big gap-up as the GENIUS Act and CLARITY Act were passed in the House after market close on Thursday (COIN gapped up overnight as well, hitting new all-time highs).
A failed follow-through on the gap triggered us to cut the remainder of our contracts to keep a solid gain on the swing trade.
We sold on the second hourly candle. No one sells right at the top.
This is how relative strength, momentum, structure and theme align.
HOOD wasn’t just a fintech play. It was a crypto-adjacent breakout in disguise.
This trade didn’t come from chasing hype — it came from stacking clues across sectors and recognizing where themes were converging in real time.
The Real Edge: Cross-Theme Tracking
Where themes collide, big moves happen.
At Bigger Picture Trading, we don’t just track sectors—we track where narratives intersect. These “overlap” zones often create explosive setups.
HACK: Cybersecurity, overlapping AI, Defense, and Quantum
AIQ, BOTZ, QTUM, ARKQ: Working across AI, Robotics, Quantum, Defense
LIT, TAN, NUKZ: Energy + EVs + Clean Power + Geopolitics
IBB, ARTY, IDGT: Biotech meeting AI, Genomics, Quantum
SMH, URA, WGMI: Semis, Uranium, Crypto powering infrastructure
PEJ, ONLN, XRT: Retail, E-commerce, and Travel—layered with Fintech, AI, Consumer Cycles
The strongest setups aren’t inside a single theme—they connect them.
